Meeting in Umeå 26-27 March, 2015

On March 26-27 2015, we held a small consortium meeting in Umeå, attended by colleagues from Harvard, Heidelberg, Amsterdam and Gadjah Mada (INDEPTH was unfortunately unable to send a representative). The aim of the meeting was to identify the main lessons learned from the INTREC training, and to take the first steps in constructing a conceptual framework that will provide an easily accessible visual representation of the process that needs to be followed in order to develop a sustainable programme for capacity-building into SDH research for LMICs. This is to be one of the main outputs of the INTREC project. Our discussions also included planning for the forthcoming stakeholder meeting in Accra.

Training workshop in Yogyakarta (Febr. 2012)

Work Package 1 (‘Establishing priority areas for INTREC in the seven participating countries’) is formally starting during the week of February 20. We are holding a training workshop, hosted by Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, for the seven INTREC Social Scientists (ISS) who will be conducting much of needs assessment work. We have been fortunate to recruit seven very high caliber individuals, and they will begin with data collection and analysis once they return to their respective countries directly after the workshop.
Work Package 1 will run until September 2012, by when seven country reports will have been produced, each including:
- An epidemiological snapshot of health inequities in the country
- A database of all courses on offer in the country that relate to the Social Determinants of Health (SDH), with possible training gaps identified
- A review of the literature concerning current SDH-related activities and policies
- Recommendations for action and training in SDH
